Grades 9 and 10

Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the Cambridge iGCSE which provides flexibility for teachers to develop teaching programmes that are responsive to needs of students who are making sense of a rapidly changing world and to make authentic connections between their learning and local, regional and international contexts.

In Grade 9 and 10 students study a well-rounded programme that includes:

  • English Language and Literature: Students explore a wide range of texts—from classic literature to modern media—developing analytical, creative, and communication skills. The course encourages critical thinking and expression through essays, presentations, and creative writing
  • Mathematics and Additional Mathematics: Mathematics in G9 & 10 promotes logical reasoning, problem-solving, and the ability to apply concepts in real-life contexts. Topics include algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics, with opportunities for extension and enrichment
  • Co-ordinated Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are taught through inquiry-based learning that encourages critical thinking and curiosity. Students benefit from three state-of-the-art science labs, where they conduct hands-on experiments and investigations that deepen their understanding of scientific concepts and methods..
  • History and Geography: Courses in History and Geography encourage students to examine past and present human experiences. Students learn to question sources, form arguments, and understand the complexities of global issues.
  • Modern Languages: Students at CSM can study Italian, French, or Spanish at both beginner and native-speaker levels, allowing each student to be challenged appropriately. Our programme supports language acquisition, cultural understanding, and multilingual proficiency, helping students communicate confidently in an increasingly global world
  • Creative Art:  This program includes Art & Design, Music, and Drama, offering students a space to explore their imagination, express ideas, and build confidence. Students develop technical skills and creative thinking through hands-on projects, performance opportunities, and collaborative work. Highlights of the programme include the a Visual Arts Exhibition, annual concerts, and major Musical or Drama Productions that bring the school community together to celebrate student talent and creativity.
  • Physical and Health Education: The Physical & Health Education programme promotes active, healthy lifestyles through a balance of individual fitness, team sports, and wellbeing education. Students travel to some of the best facilities in Milan’s city centre to access a wide range of sporting activities—from swimming and tennis to climbing and dance. The programme encourages resilience, teamwork, and lifelong fitness.

All students also take part in PSED & Homeroom Advisory, which promotes emotional intelligence, organisation, digital responsibility, and leadership.
