As part of our focus on Black History Month, Grade 8 students are learning about the history of abolitionism in the United States through the inspirational life of Harriet Tubman. A former slave and political activist, she risked her life to help lead hundreds of slaves to freedom. After a class discussion, students watched and analysed the film Harriet to have a deeper understanding of this inspirational woman's life. #csm #canadianschoolofmilan #blackhistorymonth
The United Nations sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a core component of our lower school curriculum. Grade 5 students are currently focusing on the goal of Reduced Inequalities in connection to world migration. During a role play social experiment, students learned about the difficulties immigrants experience when arriving in a new country. Some of our multilingual students were only allowed to speak in their native language and were tasked with writing signs for services like shops, train stations and hospitals. The other students had to follow instructions and try and complete simple tasks like buying a loaf of bread. This exercise helped students to develop a sense of empathy and awareness towards this important global issue. #canadianschoolofmilan #csm #iternationaleducation
This week our Grade 8 students were involved in a nerve-wracking, hands-on Kesler Science lab "escape room" activity! Using their knowledge on the property of atoms and working with the periodic table, students had to decipher various codes to deactivate a nuclear reactor about to explode! Our young scientists enjoyed putting their creative and critical thinking skills to the test!
Welcome back CSM students and staff!! We had a great first day and we look forward to a fantastic 2021!! #csm #canadianschoolofmilan
Our annual Christmas Sweater Day fundraiser was another great success this year! All students, teachers and members of staff wearing a Christmas sweater made a donation to support the Francesca Rava Foundation. The money collected was used to purchase presents for children in need by our Upper School students. What a wonderful team effort!
Pre-K children were thrilled to discover the presence of a special guest in their class for the day...! Children had been learning about nocturnal animals that like to wonder around farms. Little did they know that they would get to meet a timid, kind a prickly new friend....What a special hands on experience! Grade 12 Biology students have created their own mesocosms to observe and understand how different variables can affect the environment and global warming. A mesocosm is a model of a larger ecosystem where observations can be made on the changes that happen in a controlled environment.
