Career & University Counselling

At the Canadian School of Milan, we take a structured and progressive approach to career exploration and guidance. Beginning in Middle School, students are introduced to a wide range of career options and develop a better understanding of their own strengths, interests, and values. As they move into the upper grades, the programme becomes increasingly focused, incorporating hands-on experiences and personalised support to help students make informed decisions about their futures.

  • Middle Years (Grades 6–8): Students begin to explore different industries and professions through workshops, guest speakers, and exploratory sessions.

  • Senior School (Grades 9–10): Preparation for real-world experience begins, including CV building, mock interviews, and career research. With university applications in sight, students benefit from one-on-one guidance, career aptitude assessments, and targeted mentoring.

Career Week & Work Experience Programme

Each year, the CSM Parents Association collaborates with our University Counsellor to host a dynamic Career Week, where professionals from a variety of fields—many of them CSM parents or alumni—share insights and advice with students from Grades 10 to 12. These valuable conversations help students envision future possibilities and understand the skills needed in different sectors.

In Grade 10, students begin preparing for a formal Work Experience placement scheduled for the summer term. This experience allows them to apply what they've learned in a real-world environment and gain a clearer sense of direction.

If you are a parent, alumnus, or professional interested in contributing to Career Day or hosting a student for Work Experience, we would be delighted to hear from you.

University Counselling

Our students are provided with individualised support from our University Counsellor, in their choice and preparation for university and college applications.   Our career programme begins from the very start of Senior School to ensure students are aware of what learning pathways are available to them and what subject choices are best suited to their career goals and personal skills. Periodic one-on-one counselling sessions are held with the Diploma Programme  students and parents to advise and provide comprehensive support in the university application process.

Students take part in the various events throughout the year, such as university fairs, workshops and webinars. Further individual guidance is provided for the following activities:

  • Understanding the differences between admissions procedures and requirements for worldwide university destinations
  • Writing personal statements, college essays and resumes
  • Mock interviews
  • Planning and preparation for early applicants to the UK, USA, and Canada
  • Preparing supporting documentation
  • Providing support on results day

Meet our University Counsellor

I have over twelve years of experience working in the fields of education, events organisation and administration, which I gained working for private schools, private language schools and as an education consultant. This is my fifth year working as a University Counsellor and in that time I have had the pleasure of working closely with universities from around the globe.

I strongly believe in the benefits of an international education and supporting students to find the right university and course for them, whatever their passion! I myself took the International Baccalaureate and hold a BA Honours in English and Italian from the University of Exeter.
