CSM Parents

CSM Parents is the Canadian School of Milan's Parent Teacher Association. The goal of CSM Parents is to strengthen the school community and encourage parental involvement, also through Class Representatives, in order to improve communication and support fund-raising initiatives through school events.  Every parent of CSM is actively encouraged to participate in any way they can.

CSM Parents meet regularly to organise and manage the many activities of CSM. Some of these activities include:

  • Organising and Liaising with Class Representatives;
  • Meeting regularly with the Principal and school management to propose fundraising activities and community initiatives;
  • Organise beginning of year welcome coffee and providing informal support

Events organised by the CSM Parents in conjunction with the School include the Halloween Party, Christmas Fair, Careers Fair, Canada Fest, Family breakfasts as well as talks for parents and various parent coffee mornings. Certain events have a fundraising purpose; funds raised recently have contributed towards the purchase of important equipment and resources for the school.

Class Representatives

The Class Representative represents the class or grade group and is the contact point for all parents of that class. The selection of a Class Rep is based on a voluntary, self-nomination process. Elections will be held at the first Class Presentation in September should there be more than one candidate. Class representatives may only represent one class and there is only one representative per class.

Good Class Reps should possess the following qualities:

  • Have plenty of time to dedicate to this role;
  • Be fair, approachable and be a good listener;
  • Possess excellent English language skills as all our communication is in English.

The main activities of the Class Reps are to:

  • Act as a link between home and whole school communication;
  • Create a cohesive and positive community (eg. welcome new families to the school);
  • Be familiar with the calendar and encourage parents to support PTA events;
  • Look for volunteers for events when needed;
  • Class Reps also manage and distribute the class contact information, liaise with relevant class/form teachers and organise social events and gifts for the class where relevant;
  • Attend Class Representative Meetings with School Management as needed.
