It Is Easy Being Green
At CSM we believe in instilling civic responsibility in our students from the very start of their education to help them grow up to be conscientious members of the community. This month our lower school has been busy learning about recycling and how to be more eco-friendly.
On February 12th, our Kindergarten classes visited the AMSA Recycling plant to understand where our waste actually goes, how AMSA keeps our city clean and to learn more about recycling. This visit supported what the Kindergarteners are learning about being green. In art they had a workshop with CSM mother and artist Ms. Eldea where they created displays made of old toys. In science they are learning that a sustainable future depends on what we do today.
The Lower School’s Eco Committee held an assembly and shared ideas to prompt the students of CSM to reflect on their actions, and how they can make more eco-friendly choices both at school and at home. They presented facts showing that by reducing our use of heat, electricity, water and food waste, and with the proper disposal of materials we can make a positive impact on the planet. Each class (Grades 1-5) has a representative that acts as a ‘CSM Green Ambassador’. These students actively seek to create a greener school environment while encouraging their classmates and teachers to make their best choices. A new student is chosen each term.
CSM is proud to be part of the Global Schools, an initiative led by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Youth Initiative (SDSN Youth) in support of UNESCO’s Global Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development.
